Lake Bled

1. Lake Bled: A Picturesque Alpine Paradise

We will start our day trip from Ljubljana with the iconic Lake Bled. Nestled in the Julian Alps, this postcard-perfect destination offers a mesmerizing blend of natural beauty and historical landmarks. You can start your day by taking a leisurely walk around the lake, admiring the crystal-clear turquoise waters and the enchanting Bled Island with its church. For the more adventurous, we suggest hiking up to Bled Castle, perched atop a cliff, for panoramic views of the surrounding alpine landscape. We will spend two hours near the lake and have a few options how to spend this time: simply to walk around the lake and enjoy the views, to do a boat ride to the iconic Bled island or to visit Bled castle.

Boat Transportation and Fees:

One of the main options is a boat tour to Bled island with a traditional wooden pletna boat, operated by local rowers, from the lakeside in Bled. The pletna boat ride is a unique and enjoyable experience, offering panoramic views of the lake and its surroundings. The boat ride takes approximately 15-25 minutes each way, total duration of the boat tour is 1,5 hours.

Church of the Assumption and Wishing Bell:

The Church of the Assumption is the main attraction on Bled Island, featuring stunning architecture and a rich history. Visitors can climb the 99 stone steps to reach the church, where they can admire the beautiful interior, including frescoes and religious artifacts. One of the island's highlights is the "wishing bell," believed to make dreams come true. Visitors can make a wish and ring the bell, adding to the magical ambiance of the island.

Bled Castle: Majestic Overlooking Views

Perched on a hill overlooking Lake Bled, Bled Castle is a magnificent medieval fortress that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding Julian Alps. The castle is a cultural and historical treasure, housing a museum that showcases the region's history, traditional crafts, and ancient artifacts. Explore the castle's interior, including the medieval tower, chapel, and wine cellar, and learn about the legends and stories that have shaped Bled's heritage.

Predjama castle

2. Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle: A Journey into the Underworld

Embark on a fascinating underground adventure by visiting the renowned Postojna Cave and the nearby Predjama Castle. Postojna Cave is one of the largest karst cave systems in the world, featuring jaw-dropping stalactite formations and an underground river. The cave boasts the first underground train in the World and is opened for visitors for more than 200 years already. A train ride inside takes about 15 minutes one way when the walking part takes another hour. It is always quite cold inside the cave (9-10C/50F), so don't forget warm clothes. After exploring the cave, head to Predjama Castle, which is located about 9 km away in a small village of Predjama. The castle is a true architectural marvel built into the mouth of a cave. Uncover the castle's intriguing history and marvel at its unique location, which has made it the stuff of legends. We will have an hour to explore Predjama castle.

Entrance Fees:

To explore Postojna cave and Predjama Castle, visitors are required to purchase an entrance ticket (42 euro for Cave+castle combined ticket or 31/17 euro for cave/castle tickets separately).

Accessibility and Amenities:

Postojna cave is easily accessible almost for everyone. There is a option of a train ride only and skipping the walking part for visitors with disabilities. Predjama Castle is situated on a hillside, and reaching the castle involves navigating many steps and some uneven terrain.
